Our success is closely linked to the competences, knowledge and commitment of our team. During “OurTeam” series, we will introduce our team members, their motivations and ambitions as well as their work experience at Stemmatters.
This time we had a chat with Pedro Costa, our Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Director. Holding a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Coimbra (Portugal) in cooperation with Columbia University (NY, USA), Pedro has more than 10 years of experience in biomedical research. Pedro has been at Stemmatters for almost 4 years and, as a RDI Director since May 2021, he currently coordinates and supervises the Research, Development and Innovation activities related to our CDMO services and biomaterials platform.
Our objective was to understand what led him to join Stemmatters and what has been his experience so far in the team, so we asked Pedro the following three questions:
What motivated you to join Stemmatters?
"The key motivator was the vision that our CEO, Dr. Rui Sousa, has for Stemmatters. To contribute to the growth of a unique biotech company in the north, to go beyond the path and use innovation to bring new technologies closer to the clinics."
What makes our workplace culture unique?
"For me it’s the genuine camaraderie within the team. We are a young, energetic, highly motivated team, and extremely supportive of one another. A culture of trust and support, that allows each individual to grow, is paramount to Stemmatters."
What’s the best advice you can give to someone who is just starting a career in a life sciences SME?
"Above everything, be prepared to work smartly, in an area that is very challenging and constantly advancing. Similarly, be flexible to deal with different demands, and to make daily decisions that impact the whole team."
